Toiya 

"Compassionate Creole"

 

Toiya is a native Southern Creole, hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana. She became a resident of Houston by way of Hurricane Katrina. "God has a way of placing you in places against your will but for the purpose of His will" she stated. She is a single mother of a beautiful 18 year old daughter, Miss Tayla, who is the center of her world, her pride and joy.She has raised a straight A student who is now an honor student at Louisiana State University.

 

Toiya earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Social Work, with a focus in Children, Youth and Families, from Southern University at New Orleans. Since obtaining her degrees, she has worked in Child Protection Services, Pregnant Women with Drug Addiction Programs, Inpatient Psychiatric, LSU Psychiatry Therapy Services, Adult Day Care Coordinator, Catholic Charities Disaster Recovery, Home Health and now Hospice Care. She has a large array of experiences working with and assisting those who are disadvantaged.  Toiya is a support for individuals who are nearing death and views her time with them as a rewarding and gratifying experience. She's also the Social Worker trainer for all new staff and committee members of the Resolution team. At times as a single parent, she has to pick up extra work contracting with agencies to assist with development of forms for social services departments as well as give recommendations on the operations and flow of staff, in order to make ends meet and continue to afford supporting her college daughter.

 

 Since moving to Houston, she has become saved and very involved in her Christian life. She is a proud member of her church’s praise and worship team, drama team, praise dancing team, Hospitality team, Wise Women Project, Special Prayer Committee and women’s conference committee. She loves serving and ministering to God’s people. "I have made many changes in my life but God is not done with me yet." As you can see, Toiya leads a very active life.  She is single, but single by choice. She is an independent, no non-sense type of woman who believes that a woman should not settle for a relationship just because of its title.
